• The candidate has faced challenges over past remarks described as "anti-police." Republican opponent Matt Van Epps has reportedly challenged Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn on resurfaced social media posts. According to one summary, these posts have been described as "anti-police," with one allegedly showing her advocating for the dissolution of Nashville's police department and another addressing those who believed burning a police station was justified.
• Past statements on race have drawn questions, including from a primary opponent. A since-deleted post from 2020 attributed to Behn reportedly suggested white candidates should consider dropping out of races against minority opponents. After Behn won a primary that included one black candidate, that candidate, Vincent Dixie, reportedly questioned her at a forum on how she would ensure black constituents have a voice.
• Other deleted posts have contributed to the scrutiny of her past statements. In addition to remarks on policing and race, another deleted post from 2020 reportedly showed Behn stating she "hated Nashville." For one of the source articles, neither Behn nor her former primary opponent Dixie responded to requests for comment on these matters.
