• Mamdani is positioning himself as a direct opponent of the current administration. Mamdani has claimed his opponent, Andrew Cuomo, would act as “Donald Trump’s puppet” if elected mayor.

In response to the president’s comments on withholding funds, Mamdani stated he would use the courts to ensure New York City receives all the federal money it is owed. This presents a legal strategy to counter any potential funding cuts from the administration.
• He has proposed specific policies to address affordability and is supported by prominent officials. Noted as a self-described democratic socialist, Mamdani has proposed policies that include a rent freeze and free buses. Attorney General Letitia James, who recently pleaded not guilty to felony charges, appeared alongside Mamdani at his march to City Hall.
